What we collect

Reading the publication does not require an account. If you create a reader account, the authentication service processes the verified email address, display name, sign-in method, and session information needed to identify you and keep you signed in. The publication uses that verified identity to provide the private account page and determine whether an account has reader or editor access.

If you subscribe to the newsletter, we collect the email address you provide so we can send the dispatches you requested. A reader account and a newsletter subscription are separate choices. We do not ask for information that is not needed for these purposes.

Authentication service

Account registration, verification, sign-in, and sessions are provided through Clerk Auth, which is managed for this application by Replit. Clerk processes authentication information needed to operate those features. Passwords and third-party sign-in credentials are handled by the authentication provider; The Catholic Gwei does not receive or store them in its publication database.

Newsletter choices

Newsletter sign-up uses double opt-in: after you enter your email address, you must confirm through the message sent to that address before the subscription is active. You can unsubscribe from any newsletter message at any time using its unsubscribe link. You can also write to contact@thecatholicgwei.com and we will help.

We do not sell or rent newsletter addresses. The newsletter service may retain the information needed to honor a subscription, confirmation, and unsubscribe request.

Retention and deletion

We retain account and newsletter information only while it is needed to provide the requested service and maintain your choices. You may ask us to delete your account or newsletter information, or ask what information we hold about you, by contacting contact@thecatholicgwei.com. We will make a reasonable effort to fulfill the request and may retain a minimal record when needed to honor an opt-out or protect the service.

Operational data and analytics

The service may keep minimal operational logs for reliability and security, such as technical request information and error events. These logs are used to operate the publication, not to build a reader profile.

Where enabled, we use privacy-conscious, aggregate analytics to understand whether the site and its reading paths are useful. We do not use this publication to create advertising profiles or follow readers around the web.
